YUCCA and Partners Participate in New York Climate Week

YUCCA was proud to participate in New York Climate Week this year alongside our partners—New Mexico No False Solutions Coalition (NFS), Pueblo Action Alliance (PAA), Indigenous Lifeways, and the New Mexico Social Justice Equity Institute (NMSJEI). Our delegation aimed to expose and resist the corporate-led push for false climate solutions and center Indigenous knowledge in conversations about the future.

Throughout the week, we saw a disturbing focus on commodifying the sacred—land, water, and air—while industries and policymakers, including Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, promoted so-called solutions like hydrogen, carbon capture, nuclear energy, and produced water. These market-based mechanisms not only fail to address the climate crisis but also perpetuate environmental degradation. We made it clear that these false solutions serve profit-driven interests while reinforcing colonial practices and delaying the transition away from fossil fuels.

We delivered a letter to a Blackstone representative urging them to divest from Tallgrass Energy’s pipeline project on Navajo land, emphasizing the harm that hydrogen energy infrastructure brings to Indigenous sovereignty and frontline communities. Our work underscored the need for solutions rooted in Indigenous knowledge and the principle of Landback, focusing on clean air, water, and climate justice for future generations.

In every discussion, we connected climate justice with the broader struggle against colonial systems, fascism, and the criminalization of people-powered movements. From labor to housing, from gender to environmental justice, these interconnected crises show that justice cannot be achieved in isolation. We left NYC with a renewed commitment to strengthening our grassroots power, building deep connections, and amplifying collective struggles. As we move forward, we will continue to rely on each other, our communities, and people power to fight for a just and liberated future.
